Artsy Fartsy Flower Pots

This project contains three pins from Pinterest in one. First the flower pots, then the coffee filter lining and the lemon seed planting.

We'll start with the pots. You might remember these from our Thanksgiving Feast, they were used to bake flower pot bread. They've been hanging around since then.



This is how you start. Grab some paint you can spare/waste and dump it on the flower pots.



Then take however many different paints and dump them on there as well. (Be careful, it's super fun, so I wasted a bunch of paint) Try not to cover the lower paint completely,  and maybe leave some of the pot untouched as well.



There you go. Now let it dry (forever, because I used way too much paint). Notice all the wasted paint on the bottom of the pan? I used that to create the paper "art" for the Spring wreath. I just couldn't let all that paint go to waste, especially cause it's looking pretty cool down there.



I skipped a step here. The pot needed to be covered with clear laquer, because I used water soluble paint. If I didn't the paint would dissolve once I watered the plants inside.
Now for the planting. I prepared the lemon seeds a while ago and put the in the pot covering them with an inch of soil.
So messy! That's what happens, when you feel like springtime, all planting and stuff, and it's snowing outside.



Here's the coffee filter sitting in the pot before putting the soil in, so the soil doesn't come through the hole on the bottom. So practical.



And they're done. Took long enough.. all the painting and drying. They took place on our window sill in the bedroom.



Side to side with my small eucalyptus tree.



Now it's time to wait for little lemon plants to sprout! I'll give you a heads up when that happens.

Artsy Fartsy Spring Wreath

It was about time for our door to get a new wreath. We've had the old one for about a year and I had some artsy painted paper lying around as the byproduct of a different project.

I cut the paper into pieces and cut out a ring of cardboard as a frame.


First round of paper glued to the frame.

And the second and third round.

Here's the old wreath.

And the new one. I like it a lot. Sorry for the picture quality, the lighting in the hallway is crap.

Sunday PB cookies in bed

Today I got a recipe for you! What's the best way to ease into eating solid foods again after a fast? Cookies of course (don't try this at home). So the man made us some vegan peanut butter cookies.



Here's what you need:
1 1/2 cups of flour (we used spelt wholemeal flour/Dinkelvollkornmehl)
1 cup PB
1/4 cup of oil (we didn't have oil, so we used margarine)
3/4 cups of sugar (we used raw cane sugar)
1 tsp of vanilla

Knead the dough and roll it into 2 inch balls. Put them on a pan and into the preheated oven (400°F/200°C) for 10-12 min. Done!

Supe simple recipe and super yummy cookies. Simply delish! Hahaha, we watched too many food shows by this dude yesterday. It's addicting.

New Projects coming up

This weekend was not very productive. I've started my yearly fasting week and that's not the time to be super active, especially at the beginning. But there's still time to think about upcoming projects like the following:

The infamous galaxy print. I'll try my luck with these fake converse. They're for the man.
I'll pick out a tutorial over here.



Also for the man, a couple of shirts that need some cool prints. The mermaid is for the striped shirt, which we got at a thrift store in Paris. Because you have to get a striped shirt in Paris! Stencils are tough though, so I might have the man cut them out. You know how it's done, like this.



And then there's the making of pretty flower pots. They need to dry right now, so I can't plant anything yet, but as soon as I can, the'll be on here as well.



Yep, that's it for now. I think I really have to stay off pinterest and other blogs for this week, because it doesn't help with fasting when you see mouthwatering food everywhere.

The Walking Dead Swap on Craftster Part I

My swap partner just gave the go, she got my package, so I can share with you what I made for the "Calling all Walkers - The Walking Dead Swap" on Craftster.org.
This is my first swap ever and it was also a big one. A 5 point swap, so naturally I had 5 projects.

1. Rick, Glenn & Daryl Bead Coasters

I got the basic outline of the characters from this etsy product. I had to make a few alterations, because the plate for the melting beads wasn't big enough. The background is designed by me. The prison for Daryl, trailer for Rick and the farm/barn for Glenn. You know how it works. Set up the beads and iron to make them melt together. It was fun in preschool and it's still fun!









Can you tell that the little things on Daryls coaster are zombies? Ken couldn't :( I thought it was pretty obvious.



2. Decoupaged comic box

This one's quite simple. Cut out comic strips, glue them to a cardboard box and coat with clear laquer.







This is probably the most memorable scene both in the comic and the show. Rick rides into Atlanta and bumps into thousands of zombies. Duh, stay away from the cities! First rule in the zombie apocalypse. He also meets Glenn for the first time, who's saving his butt.









3. Slide Magnets

Also very simple, take a slide, glue some magnets to the back and put a nice picture in it. Done! You notice there's a reocurring Rick, Glenn & Daryl theme? Well, they are my swap partners favorite characters.





4. Slide necklace

You know this one already. I chose the ride into Atlanta again, because it's just a beautiful picture. Of course the pictures in all the slides are changeable.



5. Zombie Drawstring bag

This one was the most work, but also the most fun, because I designed it myself based on the drawstring bags we used to carry our PE stuff back in the school days.
I used the same cloth as for the Tablet cover, some buttons, a zipper and a string that used to be a belt for a dress.
Here's the basic outline:



Sewing on the zipper pouch as the mouth and chin of the zombie's face.



Handsewing the buttons for the eyes and nose



Strenghtening the areas where the string would be going through.



Skipping a few steps here, but I think my explaning the steps would only be confusing without the pictures. You get the idea, right? The string turned out to be a little too long to put it on your back comfortably, but it's adjustable.





And here's the whole package.



It took 3 weeks to get to my swap partner in Australia. Can't wait till I get my package! Of course I'll be sharing that with you as well.

Spring Shaving

Instead of Spring cleaning? Nah, there's still time for that.
I found a neat sweater dress at a flea market a while back, but wasn't wearing it, because it was full of pilling. I tried to get rid of it with tape roller, packing tape and duct tape, but nothing worked. Until I found this blog post on How to de-pill your clothing. So this weekend I got my shaver out, wiped off the dust from the winter time (ah-ha-ha-haa) and started to shave my sweater dress.

This is how it looked like before:



So much pilling. The white pilling from the dots was the worst.



You can see the progress! So cool.



And here's the finished product.



It looks so much better. Almost new again. You have to be really careful with the shaving though, so you don't make holes in your clothing.



Yay, it's pretty again. So if you got a piece of clothing that is full of pilling, but is worth the time, do it! Also good to know when you go thrifting. There's always a way to make old thing look pretty again.

Dreidel dreidel dreidel...

... I made it out of clothes!

I'm selling all the clothes items that I didn't get rid of at the fleamarket on the german website kleiderkreisel.de (literal translation: clothes-top toy).
Started last Saturday and already sold 6 items. It's fun! And much less stressfull as a fleamarket. I think I will put a few of my handemade accessoires on there as well, just to see if I'm able to sell them at all.
